What is RF Microneedling?
RF microneedling, or radiofrequency microneedling, combines the traditional microneedling technique with RF energy. The benefit of adding RF energy to microneedling is that RF energy also has rejuvenative properties when applied to the skin tissue. RF energy can gently heat the skin to contract and tighten the tissue, while also amplifying the effects of collagen stimulation. Ultimately, the inclusion of RF energy with microneedling treatments enables patients to achieve greater results with fewer treatments. What Can I Expect from an RF Microneedling Treatment?
Prior to RF microneedling, a topical numbing cream will be applied to the skin to minimize any discomfort. Then, the appropriate RF microneedling device will be used to create tiny wounds in the skin and trigger the body’s healing response that induces collagen production. While the microneedles penetrate the skin, RF energy will be emitted to the surrounding skin tissue. This may create a warming sensation in the skin. Immediately following treatment, your skin may have a reddish appearance with temporary tightness or swelling.
What Results Can I Expect from Microneedling?
After your microneedling treatment, collagen production can take weeks to several months, but you will see an immediate “glow” as the skin starts the healing process that lasts several days without pain or redness. Optimal results are typically seen with 2-3 microneedling treatments that are administered every two to four weeks. After the benefits of collagen become visible in the skin, you can expect results to last up to a year or longer. You may choose to receive additional treatments to extend the results of your microneedling treatment.

A consultation at our office allows us to examine your skin, determine how many RF microneedling treatments are needed, and determine the RF microneedling device that is best for you. After the appointment, we let you know how much your RF microneedling will cost. For your convenience, Alta Vista Dermatology accepts payment by cash, check and credit card. We also work with CareCredit® to offer financing options to our patients.
