Spider veins are a common condition that can affect the appearance of the skin. Although they are usually harmless, many people choose to pursue spider vein treatment for cosmetic reasons. Alta Vista Dermatology offers spider vein treatment to men and women living in Denver, Highlands Ranch, and the surrounding areas of Colorado.
What Are Spider Veins?
Spider veins are a common skin condition that commonly appear on the face and legs. They develop when blood vessels widen, becoming visible from the skin’s surface. They can appear as a web of purple, blue, or red blood vessels. In severe cases, these can cause discomfort and may be sign of more serious health issues. In most cases, however, they are harmless. Many people choose to pursue spider vein treatment to eliminate the visibility of spider veins and improve their appearance.
What Causes Spider Veins?
Some people are more susceptible to spider veins. Therefore, it is important to know the risk factors, which include:
- Excessive sun exposure
- Occupations that involve standing, including nurses, factory workers, and hair stylists
- Hormonal changes including puberty, pregnancy, and menopause
- Using birth control pills
- Increased pressure in the abdomen from constipation or tumors
- Wearing external garments such as girdles
- Trauma or injuries to the skin
- Previous vein injuries
- A family history of blood clots
Regardless of the cause of spider veins, we can treat them. During an appointment, we will examine your skin and review your medical history to determine if you are a candidate for sclerotherapy. You will not be a candidate if you are taking birth control pills or if you are pregnant.
How Are Spider Veins Treated?
At Alta Vista Dermatology, we use sclerotherapy for the treatment of spider veins. Sclerotherapy is a dedicated vein treatment that eliminates the appearance of unsightly spider veins. This is done using a fine needle to inject solutions such as Sotradecol or Asclera into the blood vessel. The solution causes the lining to swell and stick together as well as the blood to clot, making the blood vessel fade away. This is a relatively quick procedure that is easily performed and requires no downtime after treatment, allowing patients to return to work and other activities immediately following their appointment.
We will tailor a treatment plan to meet your needs, which will include the number of sessions required to achieve optimal results. The number of treatment sessions varies from one to several. The procedure may be ideal during a lunch break because it may only take a few minutes to a half hour depending on the number of veins treated. You can count on the veins disappearing about four to six weeks after initial treatment, with a success rate of over 90 percent.
How Much Does Spider Vein Treatment Cost?
To determine the exact cost of your spider vein treatment, we invite you to schedule a consultation at our office. During your consultation, we will develop a personalized treatment plan that will satisfy your unique needs and produce the best results possible. At that point, we will be able to provide you with a clear breakdown of the costs associated with your treatment.
